We all love yoga. There's always something new to find about
the practice; it's a process that allows for constant learning, practice, and benefits.
We asked our yoga friends to share their advice, top tips, or the most appreciated
lessons they've learned from the practice.
Regularity is key
If you want to feel the benefits of yoga and make an improvement,
you're in it for the trek. Stay dedicated to your practice and remind yourself
to retain at it - even 5 minutes spent on the mat is better than nothing at
all. Regularity will always payback. It will take constant effort and hard work,
but it will all be worth it in the end.
Be Compassionate To
Yourself
It's all superficial to become unsatisfied with your
practice or to criticize yourself based on impractical expectations you may
have had. It's significant to practice self-interest with your yoga practice,
not only will this make you feel better, but it’s a much better energy to
project out into the world than one of frustration and trouble. Being kind to
your body means with respect to your limits and taking the time to raise the
value of how far you've come. And checking in with your inner discourse to ensure
you're only encouraging - and not bullying - yourself when you practice.
Don’t Neglect Your
Savasana!
It is an integral part of your yoga practice. As a common
rule, you should stay in Savasana for at least 6 minutes; this will give your
body - in a functionally neutral position - sufficient time to properly relax
and cool down. During this time, your body will reorganize its nervous systems
and can process and integrate the effects of your practice. If you skip it,
you're only short changing yourself.
Keep Breathing
Just Breathe. In and out through the nose, and allow any negativity
or tension to float away. Your breath is your most powerful tool - use it.
All about the Journey
Practice mindfulness and a sense of inwardness. Don't get engrossed
in a certain posture, or feel troubled to challenge yourself with a new posture,
sequence, or yoga class. The only way we master new poses is by
pushing through the fear and trying something new. It’s important to keep
observing yourself and most prominently enjoy the ride. The benefits
of yoga are limitless, so be patient, have fun, and never give up on
your practice.
